Educational partnership with Volkswagen Group Design.
SPD and Volkswagen Group are pushing further with their educational partnership and for the next edition of the Master will make available tuition waivers to candidates with high potential. The selection is open to candidates holding a degree in transportation or car design, automotive engineering or equivalent and it is based on a motivational interview, on the evaluation of the portfolio and the submission of a conceptual project assignement. The election process will be conducted jointly by SPD and VW.
Volkswagen Group Design will take an active part into the didactic programme by providing experts’ lectures and workshops with the designers from the various studios of the group who will support the tutors and the supervisor of the programme at SPD, Andreas Zapatinas, to help orientate the work of the students.

In recent years SPD has completed a number of experimental projects in association with the Volkswagen Group Design led by Walter de’ Silva and in 2010 a five year partnership agreement was signed with the German manufacturer for the development of urban mobility concepts in the frame work of the city of Milan. With the endorsement of the Municipality of Milano, this initiative will embrace a diverse range of key topics to enhance sustainability conscious attitudes from micromobility to e-cars for private and commercial use and people movers.
In this collaboration SPD and Volkswagen share the same educational approach, with a long history of investing in and benefitting from young designers who may have the chance to join the design teams of the group. The company which aims at becoming the world’s largest manufacturer thanks to its huge growth in the Asian market, is also the leading player for design and innovation with its impressive brand portfolio.
